[ARCHIVED] May is Water Safety Month - Week 3

Water Safety Month - Swim Lessons

SWIM LESSONS SAVE LIVES.

According to the CDC, the greatest way to prevent drowning is through formal swim lessons. Our staff at White Birch Bay Aquatic Center has built an engaging and fun swimming lesson program for kids of all ages - a two-week class with eight classes and and several skill level options.

  • Aqua Tots | 6 months to 3 years old: These classes focus on getting little ones comfortable in the water with the goal of them being able to their own face in the water, float on their back alone, begin to flip to their belly, and start the safety stroke back to the wall. Additional perk: Because this is a Mommy and Daddy class where the parent participates in the class with the child, it is a great bonding experience!
  • Preschool Classes | 3 to 6 years old: Similar to Aqua Tots, these classes focus on getting kids comfortable with the water and then starting to learn the front stroke and the back stroke.
  • Youth Swim Classes | 6 years and older: These classes are split into multiple levels based on skills. Swimmers will be evaluated at the beginning of the first class to determine what level they should be in. If you know what your child's skill level is in the water, let the swim lesson coordinator know before the class begins, so she can get them started in the right class. Having multiple levels catered to the different levels of kids helps them grow into spectacular swimmers.
