(Hazelwood, MO - Dec. 11, 2019) - The holidays are a time for friends, family, and co-workers to come together in celebration. No matter where you are, it is essential that you make the lifesaving choice to drive sober when the party ends. To help spread the message about the dangers of impaired driving, the Hazelwood Police Department is partnering with NHTSA to get drunk drivers off the roads and help save lives.
“We understand that during the holidays, people are running around, busily checking off items on their to-do list and attending parties,” said Hazelwood Police Chief Gregg Hall. “We need our community members to slow down and remember: it’s up to them to make the smart decision to driver sober. Stay safe and sober on the road” he said.
Sadly, the statistics show that we have a lot of work to do to put an end to drunk driving. According to NHTSA, 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving crashes in 2018. This equates to one person killed every 48 minutes, and accounts for 29% of all 2018 fatalities.
“This ought to be the ‘most wonderful time of the year,’ so we will do what it takes to help save lives by keeping our roads safe,” said Chief Hall. “If you choose to drive impaired, not only will you risk your safety, and that of others, but you will also face the legal consequences.”
The national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs from December 13, 2019 to January 1, 2020. For more information about this campaign, visit www.TrafficSafetyMarketing.gov.
